Jørgen and Susanne’s love blossoms at Green Hills in Solrød
Two years ago, Susanne Lie and Jørgen Rasmussen met for the very first time. Susanne spoke so warmly about her apartment at Green Hills in Solrød that Jørgen, who was looking for a new home, felt compelled to stop by and see it for himself. Today, they are engaged and live in separate apartments at the same property.
“You’re very welcome to come by and see my apartment. But just so you know, it’s not a date.”
That was Susanne Lie’s message to Jørgen Rasmussen when, at an event organised by the Danish Association of Senior Citizens, she struck up a conversation with the gentleman seated next to her.
It wasn’t love at first sight, but housing talk at first sight.
Jørgen was in the process of selling his house and looking for a new place to live. Susanne wanted to help. That moment marked the beginning of the couple’s love story, which has since led to nothing less than an engagement. And it all unfolds at our property in Solrød.
He fell in love with both the building and the resident
Susanne had become a widow and was living alone in Stevns. She wanted to move closer to her children and grandchildren, who live in Solrød, and therefore moved to Green Hills in December 2022.
“I’m truly happy living here, and I shared that enthusiasm with Jørgen, even though he was a stranger at the time. He had also recently lost his wife and was in the process of selling his house. I could really relate to his situation and wanted to help,” she explains.
After seeing Susanne’s apartment, Jørgen contacted Balder’s leasing team. He was quickly invited to a viewing and was fortunate enough to move into the property, known for its distinctive architecture and green roofs, in the summer of 2024.
Since then, it has meant a great deal to Susanne to have her fiancé close by.
“We go for lots of walks in the local area with Jørgen’s dog and see each other as often as we can. It’s nice to be close without necessarily living together. It makes everyday life easier. We both prefer having our own homes, so we can also enjoy our independence when we feel like it.”
A marriage in 2037
After just six months of knowing each other, the lovebirds got engaged. The wedding itself, however, is not exactly around the corner.
“We’ve agreed that we’ll get married in 2037, when I turn 90,” Susanne says with a laugh.
Whether the wedding will one day be held in the shared common room at Green Hills remains to be seen.
