100 years old: A warm congratulations to Oda from TriumphByen
Balder’s oldest resident, Oda Nielsen, celebrated her 100th birthday on 12 November 2025. The celebration took place in TriumphByen in Espergærde, where Oda lives with her daughter Laila. On the day, their home was filled with flowers, flags and birthday cards from near and far.
It’s not every day you receive a letter from King Frederik with the Amalienborg seal on the envelope. But when you turn 100, a royal birthday greeting is certainly in order. That was also the case for Balder’s oldest resident, Oda Nielsen, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday 12 November 2025.
Together with her daughter Laila, she has lived in our property TriumphByen in Espergærde since late 2022. They moved from their house in Jutland back to Laila’s childhood town, where they have settled into a newly built apartment with a spacious balcony and a view of the green surroundings.
The recipe for a long life
From her red armchair, Oda spent the day receiving beautiful bouquets, birthday cards, congratulatory phone calls and visits from her closest family. Balder also stopped by to congratulate our oldest resident and hand over birthday gifts.
But how do you reach such an impressive age? According to Oda and her family, the recipe is simple: plenty of physical activity, a focus on health and generally keeping both body and mind active.
“My mother has always been very active in the world of sports. She has played handball, badminton and golf. In fact, she played golf actively right up until she turned 90. She took care of her home and garden well into her eighties and keeps up with news from both Denmark and abroad. She is truly an inspiration,” says Laila Nielsen.
Oda manages well in her own home with home care four times a day. Having space for Laila makes it possible for Oda to continue living there – Laila helps her mother with practical tasks. And when a light bulb needs changing or the dishwasher acts up, we at Balder are of course ready to help.
We wish Oda a heartfelt congratulations on her 100 years and are delighted that she and Laila have found their home in TriumphByen.
